Erskineville eco escape
When this one came into the emails inbox we were a little bit surprised... Is there no one in inner-urban Sydney offering a permaculture-based approach to landscaping? Our clients couldn't find anyone!
We accepted the challenge and headed north to the big smoke! |
The brief was simple... "Do what ever you can to it, we just want a few fruit trees and anything will be an improvement".
The big challenge was creating separation and interest in the flat, small and square space that is more or less shaded out at ground level. We decided to raise the ground level using Blue Mountains sandstone and robust sleeper retaining walls as well as restoring the existing wall on the boundary. |
The first thing we did was make the paving more interesting by cutting it up with a concrete saw!
The old pavers we didn't need were given away to a relative who is using them at their place and the curvy path set the scene for the new flow of energy in the space. From there the retaining wall, vertical garden and planters went in and the garden took flight. Growing vertically on the back fence that faces north, brining the soil level up in large Coreten steel planters and taking over the verge garden on the street with plum, lemon, lime, passionfruit, blueberry and even avocados! Setting the scene for this little tight-knit street so become a trend-setting urban food oasis! |
